I was asked to herald Kaga no Ryokai and His Lady Ara bin Haroun at Crown Tournament tomorrow. But I have nothing to wear! If I was to fight in Crown, sure I have plenty to wear, but to herald? So I have 24 hours to pull it together.
Well, less than 24 hours. A lot less.
I won't be able to put scissors to fabric until tonight.
So what to do?
First I considered a sokutai. Appropriate but, I bumped into the kariginu. Appropriate for formal wear for buke. Goes better with my other formatl buke gear, kegutsu and a tate eboshi.
So I figure about 3.5 yds of fabric. 3 panels of 15". One panel for the back. A left and right panel for the front. 2 sleeves 22" by 44" (before folding). And I'm done. Except for that chinese collar and frog which I have never attempted.
I would love if someone posted close-ups of the kariginu collar.
I have a tate-eboshi mostly laquered (read polyurethaned). So relaquer and add the double-fold bias tape.
I have kegutsu. I would prefer those Heian laquered 'clogs'
I have a brown silk hakama. Not long enough to tie around the ankle, unfortunately.
I have a cream faux silk kimono.
I have a tachi. I need a belt and hangers for it.
I would like to make two of those fan shaped planks. Ii-dono knows of what I speak.
I need to practise my nasal twang.

Silk will be easier to work with - that "brocade" frays like mad and with your time constraints, do you really want to be piddling with seam finishes?

That sword belt is *not* kariginu wear. It's for sokutai only.

Hmmm....
Tachi are almost always worn hanging with the edge down. If not with that belt, then how?
Edit:
Or is the problem that swords aren't worn with the kariginu? (I just did an image search. I cannot find any tachi + kariginu.  )
