Anyone know where one could find them or perhaps a tutorial on how to make them? It'd be nice to have a functioning one for those rainy outdoor events as oppose to a mundane pancho or European cape.

There's a gentleman from the Outlands I know who used one of those straw beach mats as a base and covered it with one or two raffia hula skirts. He's been off the boards for some time but I have seen the thing in person and can vouch for its effectiveness, as he escorted me on a very rainy night at Pennsic two years ago and remained considerably drier than I did. IIRC, the construction was as follows. He folded the mat in half, put a slit down the middle of the mat to the fold line for the opening of the mino and put a line of angled stitching from the neck opening to the sides to give the shoulders a bit of shape. I assume he may have also cut some sort of curve or hole to fit it around his neck. threads.srithreads.com/2009/08/07/a-rural-japanese-rain-cape-and-a-collection-of-woven-back-pads/ shows a mino in a folk art collection.

Excellent, using a mat and some hula skirts is a brilliant idea. I'll get started on my mino right away since spring is just around the corner. Thank you for the input, it helps a lot!

I have a full set..hat, cape, skirt, and boots...I will post a link to photobucket as soon as I take some pictures.....here is a picture of a very old hood or zukin (water proofed) and a travel cape or gappa over a suit of chain mail clothing.
