Rasshu-dono, I just know from experience how hard it is to try to look something up when you don't know what the Japanese word for it is. We've all been there. I have a discount pass to there, I'm there so often. (Oh, and the yari fight in "Hidden Fortress" may be my favorite part of the movie.)

For anyone who has never seen the scene to which we refer, please go here: vimeo.com/7051676It makes every quarterstaff fight in every Robin Hood movie look lame in comparison, ditto every fight involving lightsabers. Nice jinmaku:

Clan Yama Kaminari has instructions for making jinmaku up on the clan web site at www.yamakaminari.com/HowTo/Windscreen/index.html. The clan uses them to surround the camp and give us a little privacy, but I've also seen them used by campers who just want to conceal their nylon tent. Having helped make some of these, seeing those two guys in Hidden Fortress run around slashing through them in that scene always breaks my heart.

Thank you for posting that fight scene. I've been looking for it for ages!

Our local group's martial practices are alongside a busy road, and quite a bit of traffic passes us every Sunday we are out there. (I'm doing A&S "practice", but we also have thrown weapons, archery, and fencing along with our heavy fighting.) We didn't have any kind of sign or anything to inform people who we are and what we're doing, and I got tired of hearing "Lightning bolt!" shouted from passing SUVs, so I made a jinmaku and painted our domain name on it. I used the standard Yama Kaminari pattern, plus some printouts in the "Bradley Gratis" font, and 1.5 jars of Neopaque fabric paint. The "$10 no weld portable holes" are another project of mine that I'm planning to write up for the local newsletter. I was worried I'd get criticism for it not being medieval enough, but most people have been suggesting that I add a QR code, so maybe I'm OK.
