I know a fellow here in Atenveldt who got flat knocked-out at one of our local wars. He got back up, and resumed fighting. His comment? "You don't become a knight in Atenveldt by whining about how hard you got hit."

No worries, I've got insurance. It really isn't an issue of weather I get hit or not, honestly. This is my first kit, not my first time fighting. My old stuff is minimal protection hockey pads under my kosode and hakama, and I've been using my own guruwa and borrowing a loaner helm. By minimal I mean just enough gear to pass marshal inspection. And I've gotten some pretty fun bruises in the past. My biggest concern is weather its period or not. I haven't chosen any particular style yet, aside from it being Japanese, and I really appreciate everyone's input and advice so far.

As it happens, I agree. Which may help explain why I don't have that white belt and spurs.

I have little interest in becoming a knight, I also have little interest in ever winning crown tournament. I dont really care for the politics of the SCA and I think I'd be bored on a throne. I just want to become stronger and spend my weekends with a community that still puts honor as a top priority. People like that are so few in our world.
