It means a lot hearing that come from you Sensei Effingham, because with out all the work you did creating your resourses I would not have been able to make this and other pieces of armor. From the bottom of my heart I thank you. tengumoon - The edging does the shallow curves very easily without any issue, the sharper curves I heat the edging up with a heat gun and pushed it into shape. The trick is not to get it too hot otherwise it looses color and grip. Honestly if I had done this in the summer I would probably just left them out in the sun for a while and it would have been perfect. One picture I'm missing here is that I put a bead of silicone glue on the back side of the brass edging as a back up to help keep it on.

Leather Factory. They have several locations here in Arizona and I think you can order from them on line as well.

I was thinking that's where you got your leather from a lot of the local cowboy action shooters go there for their gunleather and even for buckskin coats and such. what oz leather did you use? it looks about perfect

It's about 8-10 oz depending on what part of the side I cut it from.

I am loving the linseed oil trick, weighing up between that and the lacquering thay was traditionally done... Hmm how does that finish hold up against rust however? Also, where would one procure the etching solution i have a rather large amount of sheet brass that could do with some of this brand of love ! Questions aside, onto the statements! *rubs hands together dramatically whilst taking in a sharp breath of air for a long winded reply...* Wow...

Seeing as it is a layer of oil with a clear finish on top it should hold up to rust as well as any other finish, at least until it rubs off. I'm going to play with using different oils on some of my upcoming projects to see what other finishes I get. I purchased the etching solution at Radio Shack. It is circuit board etching solution which is Ferric Chloride and can be found on the net if you don't have a RS near by.

Yagyu-dono, what did you use to attach the ends of your fukurin?

I just wrapped a piece of brass around and riveted it down. That isn't done often in period but it was done and considering how I made it I knew I would need a little extra to keep the ends down. I will say that on my armor I did not do it but put extra silicone glue on in those areas and they stayed on okay but I have had to re-glue them a few times, that is why I put the straps and rivets on this armor.

I few people have messaged me that the images are gone from this post and some were in the middle of using them for their own work (which honors me to no end). Don't worry, we are migrating servers at the moment and the images should be back soon.
