This is a vendor I purchased some striped fabric from at Pennsic. I was wondering if the silk noil is period, though I could swear the stuff has slubs, thus not a good idea for a karaginu mo. barjaveldesign.com/silk_noil.htmpatiently giddy and curious, Nagamochi

You swear correctly. Silk noil is cheap, which is why a lot of people seem to like it. I think it smells funny, it's extremely slubby and the slubs tends to pill with wear. You should be turning your kuge nose up at this crap. For just a little more money you can get habotai and dye it any color you like. www.dharmatrading.com/www.silkconnection.com/Dupioni has a bit more body than habotai, but it's also somewhat slubby - though not anywhere near as cheesy (to me, at least) as noil. On the other hand, it often comes in great colors. www.fabric.com often carries it at decent prices. Saionji

Yeah--Dupioni always infuriates me because I'm torn between the beautiful colors (I REALLY want good fabric that has different warp and weft. Well, actually, we have some (purple and yellow), but we need more!!) and the slubs. Darn frakkin garble mumble ch'ksho....

Lady One: "So I tell him where he could find some lovely shot silk. And THEN he has the nerve to cry "Oni Ga Soto!" Lady Two makes "L" sign with thumb and finger on her forehead and rolls her eyes eloquently. Lady Three: "Goodie, more silk for ME then!" To misquote Jessica Rabbit, I'm not drawn that way, I'm just bad. S.
