Greetings, I am attempting to document my name and I am looking for a little help. I am not expecting anyone to do all the work on documenting my name but I am having a hard time getting ahold of some documentation sources. Here is my name that I have constructed:
Yamamoto no Shintaro Ujiyori
I can document the Ujiyori part from Lady Solvieg's book but I am having trouble tracking down sources for the Yamamoto and Shintaro parts. This was constructed from Effingham's website and would I be in the right to list that as a source of documentation? I mean he is a Laurel ;D One book I do not have access too is P.G. O'neill's Japanese Names book. Does anyone here? Does anyone have a good idea on where I could start to document these aspects of my name? If Effingham is reading this, where did you get the data for your Names section of your website.
Thank you all for reading this post.
See you on the field,
Shintaro aka Yori

You could also try documenting the parts of the names from Lady Solvieg's book (I don't have it handy, so I can't give you page numbers, etc). I remember specifically "Yama" being a documented name element, and I believe that "Moto", "Shin" and "Taro" are also documented in that book. Remember that you don't have to necessarily document the exact name as period, as long as you can document examples of that type of name construction. This would fall under the "Rules of Submissions: II - Compatible Name Content, 2 - Consturcted Names" ( www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/rfs.html#2.2 ). This is the way that I have documented my name (and while it has not been accepted yet - It has been ruled on, but communication from the college can be slow - there should be no problem with doing names this way). For example, if you can document (and these are all hypothetical) a "Yamaki" as being used pre-1600, and a "Harumoto" as pre-1600, rule II.2 lets you say "Yamamoto" is a period style contructed name that can be registered.
