My cousin called me today, and told me that he had met a fellow that was "really into swords", and he thought to tell me about him, since I am also "really into swords" lol!
Apperently, the guy was a "walker" (I do not know if this is a term he titled himself, or if my cousin just called him this), and would not ride in an automobile. He wore a sword bundled in his travel gear (backpack and bedroll), and apperently walked around in tabi. He told my cousin that he had been trained since he was very young, with a sword, and now he just travels around america, with only his katana and the stars to keep him company. My cousin is about, 46, a retired biker, and a hell of a hard working fellow, real and honest. He said the swordsman vagabond was a real stand up guy, with very much respect and dignity, and what struck him wierd was, he had stopped to give him a ride (in his truck, not bike), but the guy refused, and said he enjoys walking. They talked a while, and parted ways.
Interesting...
From time to time, I have also seen homeless, ragged clothing people, both old men and younger men, traveling around with a sword hidden under thier packs, sticking to back streets, and always moving on. I can observe that they walk like someone who is traveling, not just taking a stroll... It is in their footwork. Another thing that I have noticed is that they are all long haired, and very lean, like a well trained soldier. That whole "Aragorn" look going on...
So, what is the deal? Any one else see these people around? I have seen them all my life, on many occasions. But only glimpses, here and there.
Are they just wackos, or are they modern kendoka?
Just an interesting topic that has come to me...
