I have been told that, before... I often feel like I have seen this all before, but, THAT is an entirely different subject! Really, just about anyone could get that reaction, though, if they just took some time to collect thier experiences and write them down. We all have stories to tell!

That would be great to have you show, Takeda-san. I hope to see you there.

To this list I will add Nissan Maxima.
I have yet to attend an SCA event, or have direct interaction with anyone outside my local fighter practice other than online (specifically here and the armourarchive). But when I first walked into the fighter practice after being invited by a friend or two, the first thing I saw was a samurai in red plastic armor pounding the living snot out of a viking.
Now, I've always had an interest in martial arts and nearly all things Japanese, so you can imagine what sort of inspirational effect this could have. For the next month, I attended practices to observe, and made sketches of Nissan's armor, toyed with different color combinations in my head, and asked him a ridiculous amount of questions. It was he that first told me of the armour archive, and to search for posts by a guy who was known as Effingham.
Nissan was actually my first sparring partner, showing me repeatedly how to properly execute a quick strike to the helmet. I paid more attention to learning his movements than to my own defense, which may or may not have been the point.
I believe that was nearly a year ago when I first strolled into the fighter practice. I should go test out my armor versus Nissan...

Some things never change. I met Nissan back in Rusted Woodlands. I remember at one point coming down from the archery range for a water break and hearing maniacal laughter. Macsen Felinfoel, on his knees, had Nissan on the ground and was gleefully buttspiking him in the head with his great sword. Both of them were laughing their butts off.... Guys. He probably doesn't remember Jehanne.... It was awhile ago. S.

I too met Kuji Kaoni Musashi, and he really helped solidify my choice to represent a Japanese persona. In character, top to bottom, and his gear was top notch.
Thanks Kuji.

I have known Nissan for many many years, and I can agree that he is a fun, top notch fighter. There was a time when he used to fight with a sashimono that had a very funny slogan written on it in Japanese...I will allow him to translate it, as he deserves the smile... I saw him most recently at Pennsic, and our meeting was, as always, fantastic. Date

Thank you all for your kind words.
Although I always told people that the sashimono said:
Your 4 ton Hydraulic jack will be ready Tuesday.
It really said: I'll kill you, you son of a bitch!

Many years ago my 20' clan banners had kanji on them. They read, "still as a mountain, fast as lightning." Whenever anyone asked what it said, the standard reply was, "indiscriminate sex with total strangers."

For the first several months I was in the society I was, as far as I knew, the only person in the whole world who played a Japanese persona; I had heard rumor of these wonderful people in other Baronies, but I had never managed to connect with them until February of 2005, at my very first Estrella. While I was wandering around there I found a man wandering around in very Japanese armor. We stopped and talked for a while, and we spoke at length of being Japanese in the SCA, trading persona stories and all that despite the fact that I was dressed in very bad western european garb of an unusual shade of blue. He gave me all the respect a noble man should give, and I was honored for it. That was Otagiri-sama, and I have never forgotten it.
Since then I have had the pleasure and honor of meeting with and conversing with others who have similarly inspired me. Furukusu Masahide-dono out of the Barony of Caerthe, Sir Saito Jiro out of Calontir, and others whom I have known only through the wonders of the internet. But the very first Bushi who I looked at and said 'I want to be like him' was none other than our dear list owner, Otagiri, and I still look to him as an example of what I try to be.
