Ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Siege weapons. NOW I see why you talk to him. Baby, baby, baby! There's nothing - er, I mean, there's very little that compares to the thrill of yanking the lanyard on a trebuchet.
Jehanne, that's MY board you're chatting on. Step away from the keyboard.

Go watch some Mythbusters re-runs. It helps. But you didn't hear that from me. S.

nagamochi, will I have to send you my seige engine plan collection?
it includes everything from a tripod mounted ballista to davinchis door knocker (realy huge crossbow designed to fire rocks a few feet in diameter and fired with a sledge hammer (my version is scaled down a touch)) to the "rabid ansteoran war armadillo" (inspired by a tortse(I think ws he name of the portable shelter) I saw at gulf wars many years ago... plus repeating crossbow notes (to defend the artillerists), a couple trebs, and a monstrosity I call the "twin 50" which is a pair of linked repeating ballista. (the origin of which is a repeating ballista I found on the web atributed to the greeks.) oh and let us not forget the war elephant (a seige tower fielded the same year as the armadillo)several of the engines can be built for under $100.
oh and a friend of mine still wants me to design either a trojan bunny, or a trojan beer keg... personaly I want to cut a miniture trojan bunny out of a block of foam and lob it at the royal perch on the field (that place where the king and his knights are directing the battle from)... surely that would make them run away... though the trojan beer keg would likely be dragged into a knights camp by some over zelloius squire<G> then my shinobi could sneek out late in the evening and serve them drinks untill they where too hung over to take to the field the following morning and victory would be mine<G>
some day I shall darken the sky with tenisballs!!!

Been there, done that. See the bottom of the thread on Pennsic tousando.proboards18.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1124913040&page=2Fuzzy green death from above Raining on the ones you love. "Where'd it come from?" you might say. From our trebuchet. When at last the battle's over You will wish you'd taken cover. "Where'd it come from?" you might say. From our trebuchet. Damn, I can't remember the rest of it, but Elizabeth of Rusted Woodlands is responsible for this one - not me. And it's to "Men of Harlech." Saionji

"...forgive us our sins, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen." Wait, wrong religion for this site, but I don't know any Shinto prayers.
Oh, well. To paraphrase a well know quote, "If dees iz torture, get me some 2x4's."

Scene: Friday morning, 3 a.m.
Jerzy: Nagi, wake up! Nagamochi: Dear God, what do you want, you mushroom eating bastard! J: I'd rather a 'shroon than that green crap you pull out of the sea. N: Shut up, I'm going to bed. J: No, no! I've got a great idea for a siege engine that will work for both of our cultures. N: I'm afraid, but I have to ask. What is it? J: So we build a trebuchet with a base kind of like the SiJiao Pao, right? N: Ok.... J: That way it looks appropriate for me. Then we scale it to about 3 feet high for the base so it meets our scant storage availability, and is a correct size for your people to operate. Slap a few Asian dragons on it, and mik mewosht!, we've got a good thing going. N: (Blink.... blink....) J: Well? N: So you're telling me that by making a bastardize monstrosity, we're doing something right, and in our time frame??? J: Yeah!! Cool, huh? N: Firstly, though Japanese are diminutive to our Western bretheren, we aren't smurfs! Secondly, painting tarted gold dragons on it doesn't make it Asian! J: So you don't like it? N: NO! Sweet googly-moogly no.... J: You're so pretentious. Wait, is "anal retentive" spelled with a hyphen? N: Well, if the silly winged Hussar isn't trying to be witty? J: Damn skippy! N: Jerzy, seeing as you're from Poland, maybe you could answer this one for me. Why is the suicide rate so low in Poland? J: Um... I dunno. N: Cuz you can't kill yourself jumping out of a basement window. J: Hey! N: G'nite, I'm going to bed; that is if the mushroom fettucine you wolfed down doesn't keep me up all night.
Now before anyone send me angry e-mails, I felt it appropriate for me to use that Polish joke, if for no other reason, because I am a quarter Polish. Dear sweet Mary am I ever....
Ja ne, and jzindobrei Nagamochi

saddly not on this computer... most of my stuff is either on my desktop, which is down till I get around to including a new mobo/processor/heatsink, or on paper... I am working on some new sketches for nagamochi-sama, though it may take a while with school and work taking priority... unfortunaty I had a few moments of weekness a week ago and my budget for new computer parts went on a new shotgun instead<G> (and no redneck shotgun just because I live in meridies...) and since naga has pointed out an issue with storage space, I am already redesigning a standard combat trebuchet design to try to make it break down into smaller pieces for better closet worthyness, though I fear I can not do much with the throwing arm until I can experiment with it's durability... I am concerned over the idea of trying to break it don into less than two 8' pieces. on a bright note it is MOSTLY 2x4 construction... assembled with countersunk bolts. BTW naga... "googly moogly" where did you get that from??? I have only heard it used once... and the source has been dead for a number f years from colon cancer as I recall.
