As I do the math, I realize I can't really claim to be a beginner any longer. A friend of mine got this shot of me playing at Mists Cynagua War a couple weeks ago. (Yes, I'm wearing "boy clothes," a kataginu kamishimo. Debating whether I want to add some paint work to it as it's quite plain.)  |

My taiko class got to perform in the Alameda 4th of July Parade today, on a float sponsored by the Buddhist Temple of Alameda. We were loud, we were enthusiastic, the crowd loved us and we had a blast!! Wow, yeah, looks like awesome fun. Looking back on the start date of this thread, ~3 years from first practice to public performance; I hope you feel like you've made real progress. |

I suspect I make up for lack of technique with an overabundance of enthusiasm, but I love playing with this group. We have so much fun!

Because my sensei is a dear, sweet man who cannot say no, my taiko class did a performance at the Sakura Gakuen Japanese School's open house this weekend. Unbeknownst to me, some SCA friends snagged some video of my o-daiko solo. Now, you have to understand that I was not happy with my solo for a long time. The run up to Twelfth Night kind of ate my brain and it just wasn't gelling properly. Well, it gelled Sunday. I'm hoping Emily's Dad got more of the performance so you can see how well the rest of the gang did. youtu.be/bZ7OOgUC_Is |
