I am trying to find out exactly what this item is. Came from Great grandfather's museum of all things collected during his world travels. he had a ton of Asian artifacts, along with Roman, colonial and who knows what. i thought that perhaps the crysanthemum gave me a clue to it being japanese. It's very heavy, with two hand holds on the back that have a very tired webbing and wool batting cover on them. The front is heavily decorated with scrolling that's hard to see in the photo. It's been hanging around the family for over 75 years, and I'd love to know what it is. Any ideas? ? I'll post a photo of the back soon. thanks Much maggie Attachments:

It's 12 inches across. I noticed today that there are standing figures in the designwork.

This looks to be one of the aforementioned singuata that dannyinjapan was talking about. Further analysis will probably make good use of his expertise.

If you go to tousando.proboards.com/index.cgi it shows you the most recently posted topic in each forum section. Towards the bottom, it lists the most recently posted topic for ALL forums and the 20 most recent posts.
