Title: The Fine Art of Kimono Embroidery By: Shizuka Kusano Size: Large book, coffee table size, 11 pages Period: Lots of period info in here that is certain to inspire. Mostly the book is photo examples, but there is still period info included in this book. Price I paid: At the time $45.
___________
First this is NOT a 'how-to' book. What this book is examples of work made by a master of the modern craft, with supporting history and other related info.
This book includes a wealth of historical information and stunning examples of satin stitch style work. The back of the book has several pages of historical info broken down by period (Nara period forward), and even info on historical themes such as the Tale of Genji. There is even info on period schools of art such as Rinpa School dating back to 1558.
If yo are looking for stunning examples of Japanese embroidery, and historical info this book is def for you. The high quality, detailed, full color gloss pages of embroidery art also make it a stunning coffee table book or impressive gift.
It seems I am the reason we can't have nice things...
