I have a copy of Eiji Yoshikawa's Musashi I'd be happy to lend you. (Staffan saw it used somewhere and decided I needed to have it.)
Liza Dalby's The Tale of Murasaki is a fictional "autobiography" of the author of the Tale of Genji.
I'm currently marching through the McCullough translation of the Taiheiki, with the feeling I should've kept a score card. It's a great read, but keeping names straight of who is supporting which claimant is a little tricky.

Noble Cousins! Greetings from Solveig! I have a copy of Eiji Yoshikawa's Musashi I'd be happy to lend you. (Staffan saw it used somewhere and decided I needed to have it.) It is a good read as is his other big novel "Taiko" ISBN 4770026099 which is about Hideyoshi.

I'll third Yoshikawa Eiji.
Also, there's a series by Laura Joh Rowland, the Sano Ichiro mysteries, which are set in the Edo period, which is after the SCA period, but they're fabulous.

Pallidus-dono,
Do you want me to bring "Musashi" this weekend? I'm done with it.
