J-Box www.jbox.com/homeappears to cater to the Pocky gobbling, anime watching, manga reading, cosplaying crowd,* however, they do have a few items that might be of use to the Japanese re-enactor. $16 US for waraji-zori (only one size available) - I have a pair on order just for grins, will let you know how they work out. www.jbox.com/product/SZ159They also have men's and ladies' traditional tatami setta (zori). They also have some lovely wooden bento boxes: www.jbox.com/search/all/mage_wappa*This is not a judgement, simply an observation. Don't mind my old-phartisms. SAL shipping is pretty reasonable if you're willing to wait a little while for your products to arrive.

J-box is the "clean" side of J-List, and I've dealt with them several times. Their merchandise is always exactly as described, and their customer service is polite and prompt. Which, yes, I guess makes me part of that crowd Makiwara-dono was alluding to.

hich, yes, I guess makes me part of that crowd Makiwara-dono was alluding to. I say it with love, brother. Of course, my idea of a good time is slogging through the Taiheiki, followed by The Essential Shinran (just started reading that yesterday). Pleased to hear their service is good, though I must say I've never had any issues dealing with Japanese merchants via Teh Intarwebs, be it via eBay or direct purchase.

One of the great things about J-list / J-box is that they take their slogan: "You've got a friend in Japan" rather seriously. They offer cool Japanese things I wouldn't otherwise have exposure to, including several tools for learning the Japanese language. And there have been a couple of times when I've called them and said, "Hey, I heard about this cool Japanese thing, can you get it for me?" and they've either come through, or told me how to get it from someone else.
I in fact bought a pair of those waraji you've ordered, and my experience is that the quality is great, but they're constructed in such a way that they aggravate the arthritis in my right big toe, so I've only worn them a couple of times. Alas.

Ha! Nana, did you drink too much sake at Makiwaras party last time? Perhaps I'll bring you some of this stuff then!

I LOVE this site! I just bought an "Edo" (could be used as earlier era) bento box. I also bought the black toothpaste from them. I want to see how that works out. I want to order my zori from them as well, but I will have to wait on that.
