Lady Wu has the camp laid out for Estrella, for all that are camping with us. We do have a center court yard for the vigil festivities.

cant wait for the sumo wrestling!!!! get to hopefully throw some barbarians!! ooorrraaahhh!!!! It should come as NO surprise to anyone who knows him (or has seen any Youtube video of his spear charges) that Lash-dono beat all comers in the sumo and won a bottle of shochu for his efforts. Don't mess with him - he's wicked aggressive and FAST. Best bout of the night was between him and Yagyu-dono, who had been MC-ing for the contest. What a war! I had full classes for taiko two out of three days, including some kids who dragged chairs over and drummed on chair backs when we ran out of drums, and eleven showed up to listen to me geek about tea. Special congratulations to Li Guang Ming, newly knighted by His Majesty Kynan of the Outlands. The vigil was epic, featuring lion dancing and martial arts demonstrations by Arizona White Crane Kung Fu, magic by Dr. Steven Strange and Mother Fakir, a quick bit of taiko by yours truly, and the sumo tournament. (I am in envy, but there just was NOT room for this sort of thing in the Concord Hilton.) The ceremony was beautiful, interspersed with a great deal of appropriate Chinese poetry. I saw flash: hopefully, someone got good pictures and we'll be seeing them soon. (More importantly, my Laurel medallion did not fall out of my hair when I bowed - I have a long tradition of regalia-foo.) I am deeply honored to have been asked to be part of it and insanely proud of he who is my friend, my brother, my peer. JAI YO! I miss you all already and cannot wait until the next time we get to put the moon to bed.

That sounds totally awesome. I'm glad everyone had fun! I can't wait to type a post like that one after I get back from this event next year.

I should also mention that Lash and his lady turned a cabin-tent into quite a respectable little tea room and invited me to enjoy some tea and good conversation with them. (Not surprisingly, the three of us are now engaged in a sake-exchange-program).....

Saionji-dono, thank you for letting my lady and myself join you at your table during the vigil. I made the mistake of promising Lash, despite his warning that judo was frowned upon, that the first person I came up against at the sumo tourney would be hip-thrown out of the circle.
Going up against one of your former warmasters was an interesting experience and it was probably my only chance to toss that old hog. But Lash hit me like a freight train and forced my foot out of the circle before I could finish the O-goshi. I'm proud he went on to defeat three more in single elimination after myself, including a 275lb muscle-bound Gaijin by the name of "Bam Bam". Oorah, Lash!

Saionji-dono, thank you for letting my lady and myself join you at your table during the vigil. You're most welcome, Momotaro-dono. It was a pleasure to meet you both. That's the problem with telling someone exactly what your plan for world domination is. ;D Speaking as a spectator, the tournament was a lot of fun to watch. Yagyu-dono gets full marks for recruiting competitors (and coaching at least one prior to the tourney), running the ring and giving Lash-dono a very hard time when he was challenged.

Oh, the Sumo was so much fun. It was hard to just watch and not jump in to wrestle, and I thank Lash-dono for the challenge so I got my time in the ring. Next time maybe he won't catch me flat footed on my turn. :-D

Im thinking Yagyu-san looked pretty sexy in his kit!!lol!!! Yeah, baby. I asked if I could have those hakama if you killed him. They're gorgeous. The blurry round gold bits are a crane motif on a royal blue ground which is showing dark in those pictures.

Yeah, and my fat butt is in the way of people seeing you beating Bam Bam in that pic. I'll make sure that I leave my Hakama to you in my will Saionji-Hime.
