Konnichiwa, tomodachi!
I am having a discussion with a friend of mine off-board, regarding Japanese-style archery. We both agree that typically a daikyu was drawn to the chest -- at least, all the illustrations of it that I have seen have been that way.
I've realized that I've had a very hard time finding documentation about the hankyu, and am hoping that perhaps someone here has already done research in that area. Does anyone know where I can find some general documentation about the short bow and how it was typically shot? If it's shot from the chest, that makes the arrow length very different from being shot from the face area.
I personally would prefer long-term to acquire and/or make a hankyu (that Backyard Bowyer stuff on YouTube is inspiring! though I don't know if Caid permits PVC bows). The daikyu are so large I can't figure out how to portage one without buying a new car or making one of PVC and making it a take-down. For the record, right now I'm using a standard recurve, and shooting it left-handed. Oh, so very not-Nihonjin. ;D

I have been able to transport my 7.5' rattan glaive by sliding it from the rear door and 'threading the needle' between the front passenger seat and the inside of the front passenger door. I've got an 06 Nissan Sentra, which is considered a compact car. I know this didn't really answer your questions, but it may save you a new car payment. ;D However, I would like to piggyback on your thread and ask if anyone has seen/used the Artemas V longbow for SCA combat archery. It can be taken down, and apparently has been designed to fire the awkward combat archery arrows. (I'm currently using a youth hand bow, which does the job...but not very well. #35 of pull just isn't enough to get peoples attention without a direct hit to the grill.) shop.argentlupus.com/product.sc;jsessionid=F5D0525E8AF0C22D7411ACE0BDEB35BE.qscstrfrnt05?productId=56&categoryId=16
