Title: Arms And Armor of the Samurai, The History of Weapons in Ancient Japan By: I bottomley & A P Hopson Produced by: Brompton books corporation ISPN: 0-517-64467-3 My cost: $30 Pages: 192 Period: VERY! From the Heian prior into Edo is covered with LOTS of large photos of period armor and weapons! My thoughts: This is a great book for anyone interested in armor and weapons in Japan in almost any period! This book is rich in history, photos, and details as to how the armor was produced and even social/political background behind some of it. If you make Japanese armor, I really believe this books should be in your collection. Topics covered: horse armor, archery, all SCA periods, helms, armor, battle standards / flags , armor, and more. Photos: Large, most are in color some are in black and white.

Is there any way you could possibly reduce the size of your images so it doesn't lock up people's browsers?
Many thanks.

This book is pretty much a must for anyone who is interested in Japanese armor. It is the first book I ever got on the subject and have had a hard time finding other books that cover the subject as well. Sure you will find some with more details here and there but as an over all guide this was my inspiration until I found Sensei Effingham's site.

This book and Effingham's site, are my two favorite references, but not in that order.

I'm going to need a copy of this book, if only for the super-excellent picture of the quiver. I need to make me one of those.

You know what would be a truly evil book?
If Anthony Bryant expanded hhis armoring website into a coffee table book, with say a chapter on a particular piece of armor, say a dozen pages of historical background and advice on reproduction for show and rattan combat, followed by twenty pages of full color plates of historical examples of that piece. Of course kabutos and dô's would probably necessitate two to six chapters each. Maybe a cd included with patterns.
I hesitate to contemplate, what I would pay for that. Or even worse, what I might contribute to a kickstarter for such a project.
