Did a test run to make sure that my camera picked up everything but it decided to go to a wonky focus which hid the details, plus when I say the Japanese names for armor pieces I so miss pronounce things that I think when I re shoot it tomorrow I'll try to use the English names a little more (seriously it sounds like down home southern trying to be a samurai). Though I now live in New England, up until 6 years ago, I'd never lived east of the Mississippi. At least half of that time, south of Mason-Dixon. I've also lived out in sticks outside of Prescott, AZ and Olympia WA. Been seriously thinking about chronicling my Nihonese SCA conversion in a blog named Backwoods Bushi.

Video still isn't uploaded so definitely not getting the URL out until tomorrow. Then I can edit the next part.
I'm looking up ways to optimize the video compression so that it uploads faster so hopefully I don't have to leave my computer on all night again.

Alternatively, you could just lace faster so the video is shorter Only joking of course! I am looking forward to seeing the video; it will help me verify that my work thus far is not wasted.

So this is the first video that shows how I lace together the individual Kozane. I'll start on the next video that shows how to lace Kebiki Odoshi later today. I may break that down into three different videos, one on basic lacing, one on adding a lace, and one on removing a lace. That will not only make the video a lot shorter but if you are just wanting to see one specific part of lacing you don't have to dig through a whole video to find it.
I have been so excited about this project that I've made a new You Tube channel called "The Samurai Hobbyist" where I'll be trying to get at least one video up a week. I'm going to start a thread about it later in General when I get home about it.

I am very new to Hon Kozane armor construction, so please forgive me if I am way off base! It seems to me like you are adding scales to the front of your lame (board). Shouldn't they be added to the back when working left to right? Of the museum pieces and internet pics I have seen, they seem to go behind, not in front. Does it matter?

*Resonding by phone so if I miss spell something I'm sorry*
In period the upper left hand of the Kozane would be bent out to facilitate lacing the lames together, I don't see how that would work if it wasn't done this way but I may be wrong. I will actually talk about that in the next video.
All and all I don't see how that would make a huge difference in your armor except it would change the layout of the visible ridge on you lame. As far as lacing goes you still just end up with three rows of empty holes for your Odoshi later.

And now that I think about it I think you may be right the plastic might get in the way of the lacing ill have to re-do it when I get home.
Yeah, now I'm mad at myself for missing that, I should know better.

Yeah, now I'm mad at myself for missing that, I should know better. Thank you for all your efforts so far. I am sorry I was the bearer of bad news. I certainly wouldn't be as educated on the topic had it not been for pics of suits you have posted, this site and Mr. Bryant's guide!

No, thank you for pointing it out, now I can fix it before some poor guy used my video and realized they had to re-do it because the lacing didn't look right. It also tells me that I really should start at the true beginning, dressing a prepping Kozane, before I do lacing. I haven't built a suit with Kozane since the late 90s (I actually had a Scottish persona at the time) when I helped a guy start an O-Yoroi. He made his own Kozane and ran out about half way through, and honestly did some things the hard way, but I didn't know better at the time.
The suit was looking great I just wish he had finished it.
It was that suit that made me decide to "Fake it" by making the Lames out of solid pieces instead of individual Kozane. I've done some Kozane pieces, but haven't done a full suit since then and have been thinking about it lately, especially if I get my Kiln going so I can make spring steel (then I can use 22 gauge steel which will be awesome).
Anyway, thanks again, now it's back out to the shop to make a new video.

Yagyu-dono, could you provide a link to that youtube channel of yours? Video streaming websites are blocked here at work, so I can't look for it myself right now...

I too would love to see these videos, cause i am certain i am doing something wrong, as I can never get my lacing "poofy" on the corner bits of the actual kebiki lacing.

And on the subject of lacing kozane, is it supposed to "warp" slightly as it gets laced or should it be able to lay flat after lacing?
