11/4/13 As the days shorten The light seems to lean sharply, Eager for sunset. Fooled by warm breezes, the trees Seem heedless of winter's fate. but the evergreens they stand and will remember fooled not by breezes no matter how delightful they know winter is waiting

Long line of red lights: commuters slog to their work, their eyes on the road. Clouds lit up by dawn's red fire but a glimpse in the rearview.

Honed to a bright arc, The setting moon coasts lower, Lost among rooftops. A sudden chill presages The darker season to come.

Shoes are a poor lure. The cosmetics counter holds No sway over me. But the time I could waste in The aisles of a hardware store!

One day, or maybe two, are lost to my travels. Next time, perhaps I can be home for one of these daily tanka challenges.

Aroma wafts up. The oven warms the whole house. Gluttonous desire fills my body and my mind. Apple pie thoughts consume all.

From behind a screen of gray clouds the sun peaks out. Shadows disappear. The high tide mirrors the sky and waterbirds swim in the clouds

Whiter than paper They pose calmly at bay's edge Or scythe through the air. Among the egrets floats a Pelican like a great ship.
