This is a question about the fabric part, not the plates but I want to build a Kote that is easy to wear and I was wondering if anyone has tried to make one that is continues through the shoulders. I realy just want this to hide sport elbow pads and put some padding under the Sode, but I will eventually add forarm plates. I am thinking it would have a neck hole, but maybe it should have a lace up opening in front. It would be easy to cut in two if I want it like that later. On the subject of fabric, I was thinking heavy canvas on the outside, soft cotton on the inside, foam stitched between at the shoulders. I have a nice tarp weight canvas piece of the right size, but I also have an old moving quilt. This may not be the right spot to ask but does anyone have experience staining canvas with tea and iron liquor? Thanks for your time and thoughts

I made a manchira stuffed with batting for more protection (http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/katchu/katchu.html "misc. armor") and to keep it more authentic, but it wouldn't be hard to connect the two kote. Cut out the two patterns for each arm and then cut and pin a middle section with the neck hole to get the proper sizing before cutting it out of your base fabric.
I'm not sure what heavy canvas or tarp material you have in mind, but maintaining a uniform stain sounds challenging, but there is probably a DIY video in YouTube. I'd do a practice sample first.

Undyed unbleached 15 oz, from the ruminants bin, and about 18" wide and long enough to go wrist to wrist. I'm going to dye it and see how it goes.
