Effingham of honoured memory gives a pattern for this fitting, and describes the special hinged version on a sendai dô, but I can't find his explanation of how and where the conventional style attaches to the watagami/shoulder straps. I can't think of any good photos, or any armours which I have seen which have this feature. Could anyone explain how these attach? I get the impression that they are supposed to pivot somehow, so that you can flip them up while fastening the watagami to the breast then let them fall back into place covering the cords. With the exception of Sendai dou, hinged gyoyo appear to be post period. Earlier ones on haramaki etc. appear to be laced like the kohaze on the tateage (4 holes)and laced to the watagami.

Thanks a lot! So they pierced two pairs of holes in the watagami higher than the ones for the kohaze which connects the breast to the watagami, and four holes in the gyôyô, and ran cord through the holes on the gyôyô, over the watagami, and through the extra holes in the watagami?
