I've fought in Battle of the Nations on the US Team for the past two years. I was sitting in the Airport in Marseille and was chatting briefly with the Japanese Team. The said that there were basically two groups back home in Japan-- those who would participate in European styled harness, and those who would participate in Japanese Harness. The Japanese camp was waiting to see how the Euro style group did so hopefully they will have a new batch of fighters who try to participate in Japanese kit next year.

Who decided that fighting in her shiniest kariginu and hakama was just the thing for the Cloondara Pas D'Armes? THIS GIRL. It continues to prove my concept that I can fight in any existing garb as long as I wear my rapier shitagi under it. (I am mortified that I was halfway to the event when I realized I didn't have the hitoe or kosode to go under it!) That said, the right sleeve seam did not hold up to rolling around on the ground (I died a lot) and requires a repair. Not to mention the unsightly rumpled effect at the back, likewise from dramatic deaths. As part of our attempts to entertain the gallery, I engaged in a "bull fight" (that's a cape in my left hand) with my sensei, Brogan (fighting double dagger as the bull). I got within a centimeter of a kill only to miss the shot, then he got me. Sadly (?) there are no photos of us fighting drunken style.

So I remember a discussion on the board somewhere about how you fight a Shield with a Katana and I talked about how I would push the shield so they would push back, release so their shield would move out of position and then lean and hit them in the torso. Well at Champions this weekend someone got a great shot of me doing this move... If I find that thread I will re-post this there as well.

1) Not much of an action shot, I know. This was the mid-bout calm between a number of fun and furious exchanges. 2) Don't judge me - I know that I'm not very put together in this shot. Just happy to have made it to the field that day... :-D Attachments:
