Sure did, Sakurai-dono. Big hunks of thick leather. So far, so good. I don't get face-thrusted by swords that often, though.

I can't speak for everyone in the group here, but the reason that I do not belong to groups that use live steel in their combat is really that I don't want to have to wear as much armor as they do.
I really do not want to have to wear chain mail from head to toe, tried it once, didn't like it.
Plus I know that the groups around here that do live steel also have a lot of restrictions on what techniques that you are aloud to use.

There were some decent pictures taken at Festival Of Maidens in the Midrealm last weekend. Several of them feature fellow nihonjin - some in armor, some not... www.terraefinis.org/maidens2008Tengu-dono, are you in any of these pictures? Do you know who the samurai in the red armor is? - Imagawa

I really do not want to have to wear chain mail from head to toe, tried it once, didn't like it. You don't have to...What about plate armour... My armour is chain mail, and feel no blow at all. Plus I know that the groups around here that do live steel also have a lot of restrictions on what techniques that you are aloud to use. Yes you are right...Stab are not allowded. I came from Europe (Poland) and in here we don't have such thing like fight with wood... pl.youtube.com/watch?v=hDoj5ZZHFuwP.S Forgive me for my wrong spelling and grammar.

No problems with the grammar, I think it is great to have conversations with people from other places.
Thank you for posting a video! Is that the group that you are a part of? That group is a lot less strict with their armor requirements then any of the live steel groups in my neck of the woods. In order to fight with any of our groups, all the joints would have been covered with chain and your helmet couldn't have any opening more then 1/4" in any direction. While the gentles that were doing singles would probably been okay, I saw some helmets in the melee that had only bars on the front or large eye slits. Plus the live steel guys around here don't swing any where near that hard.
The great thing about it is that except for the steel vs rattan the fighting in the video looks very similar to what we are doing. I have to ask though, is there anyone playing an Asian persona in that group?
A few things that I do like about the way the SCA does things compared to the local Live Steel is that with using wood (actually rattan is a type of grass, but lets face it, it hits like wood) we can have lower armor standards (my kits tend to be mostly leather and weigh in at less then 50 pounds including helmet and weapons) and you can start fighting for less the $200 dollars if you are willing to make some stuff yourself.
If I wanted to play live steel around here it would cost me well over a grand just for the basics. And that suit would be much heavier then what I am wearing now.
Anyway, that video does look like a lot of fun, and if I hadn't had the SCA as an option, I would be looking for that group right now. ;D
