Bovil-dono brought a 1.8 liter bottle of Hakugin and Oni-Karakuchi to a party we attended last night.
The Oni-Karakuchi has been mentioned here previously. A 10+ on the Nihonshudo, it's probably the driest sake I've had and liked.
The Hakugin, from Yamagata prefecture, was a delightful surprise, with a lovely, complex scent in the glass that did not disappoint on the tongue. Delicate without being wimpy.

Makiwara, is there a site somewhere that has reliable ratings and reviews for sake? Anywhere local has such a small and gross selection of very low grade sake that I'll have to order online. So being able to check up on it before I order would be great. Ps. I think your Kosode page bit the dust getting a 404

I was looking up some info on sake recently and found www.esake.com, which might be helpful. I'm trying to get around the various types of sake, and how to treat it. There is also a compilation of "Oishinbo" that has been translated into English. This was a popular food manga in the 70s and 80s, and might be of interest to anyone with a love of Japanese food. The second volume were some of the best sake/alcohol related subjects.
