Title: Tosa Mitsunobu and the small scroll in Medieval Japan Published By: Melissa McCormick Year Published/Copyright: 2009 ISBN (Hardcover): 978-0-295-98902-0 Pages Total: 292 Language: English
Review: This book is visually rich, and loaded with lots of information. I saw works from the 12th century into Edo. There was some history and information about the role these scrolls had and played in even the Heian period. These scrolls play into a lot of story telling, and give glimpses into daily life at times. This is an interest and niche subject, great for someone wanting to research period painting in Japan. From court artists to humble priests this book really touches down on many different aspects that are all historically critical to this form.
Thoughts: Since these scrolls span so many periods, this full color glossy page book is great for anyone wanting to learn more about scrolls or painting in Japanese history.

I got this book from the library on your recommendation. It's very good so far. I intended to look at it mostly for the illustrations of period life, but I'm finding the history of the small scrolls very interesting.
