So I saved some fabric from going into the dumpster at work today, and was wondering if they would be okay. I would not want to offend the Japanese textile gods, lol. This last one is kind of a faux micro suede. Any help would be much appreciated.

So I saved some fabric from going into the dumpster at work today, and was wondering if they would be okay. I would not want to offend the Japanese textile gods, lol. Without handling them to understand the texture, I really can't say for sure. Just looking at them, none of them looks offensively modern to me. I mean, there are no Hello Kitties or anything. Wearing all three in a single outfit might be a little beige, though. As far as offending the textile gods, I'm in the sect that says any fabric you have is better than fabric you don't have. Any garment you make is better than any garment that you never make because you're waiting for the "perfect" fabric. (We're a pragmatic sect, and traditionally we start 'services' with a 'communion' of bagels and Mimosas.)

Well, that's exciting, that means I have enough fabric for a couple of garments. I also saved some really nice cream colored polyester from the dumpster this morning, enough to make an "under hitatare"? with.

I work at an architectural millwork company. Every once in a while we cover panels in fabric or leather, they were clearing out a storage room. Some of that fabric has probably been lying around for years. I probably ended up with 50-75 yards all told.

Free fabric is free! I would say avoid the ultrasuedes, anything like a velour and anything that makes you think "Am I going to look like a 1980's sofa in this?" Be careful of synthetics if you're planning on wearing them around campfires or candles as they can melt! www.fabriclink.com/University/BurnTest.cfm has information on how you can burn-test fibers from your finds to try to figure out what they're made of.
