Sometimes you just rivet your mai and take your chances.

Ahh. Plate seven goes to the front and plate one goes to the rear. I wonder what would happen if you put one towards the front and seven towards the rear?

You'd have a backwards helmet bowl. The shapes also turn out to have a narrower front than back (egg-shaped, y'know).

Shouldn't the narrow part of the egg be forward? Hockey helmets and "combat helmets" are built narrower in front than in back.

I meant the shape as designed.
Reverse the pattern and you've got the narrow bit behind.

Whew! That's better. One thing about metal ... you can always just hit it with a bigger hammer. (Seriously, it's easier to do some things with the bowl all rivetted up, less springiness in the metal pieces).

Question: If you stand at attention while wearing a multi-plate kabuto, will the tehen be pointing straight up or towards the back at a slight angle?
I ask because when I stand straight (and I suspect most people), the line from the center of my head back through where I perceive my crown (the same place that male pattern baldness starts) extends towards the back and not straight up.

If you look at the kabuto on the right, that is pretty much how my bowl looks, nearly vertical sides, almost no rise for the mabizashi. My mabizashi will also have that same 'inline with the koshimaki.'
