Saionji Sensei- (Or anyone else willing to send it to me) I don't see the pattern you used anymore. Could you possibly repost it? Or send it to me via facebook? (You know me as Shanna on there) I'm having trouble with the one I've been attempting for the last little while. Domo!

Unfortunately, the person who put that page together did not maintain it and it's gone unless you want to try running it through the Wayback Machine.

Does anyone have leather tabi they've made and if so, could you post some pics for us to see?

Tabi for 2015, and it's only April! I took the pieces for these out to Estrella, because it's much easier to fly with a sewing kit than with a marudai. I completed one in its entirety at Estrella, and worked on the other in dribs and drabs over the next month. The soles are natural linen, the linings are white linen, and the exteriors are green linen left over from the first suikan I made.

www.leathertabi.net are working on leather himo tabi at my request. And no, I'm not affiliated in ANY way with leathertabi.net. I'm just a very happy customer! But I'm sure that it will speed up the process if people start poking those guys with "I want some leather himo tabi!!!!"

You mean tabi with himo at the top instead of kohaze at the back? Nice! I'm never comfortable buying footwear through mail-order, though.

Exactly those. They are hand made and of excellent quality. I have my second pair of regular velcro tabi now. They are as good as new after about three years and I use them very often during training. The himo ones are another thing. They aren't available yet, AFAIK. I am eager to see how they will be.
And it's safe, Ishiyama. Our dōjō are regular customers. Never ever had any problems with them.

And it's safe, Ishiyama. Our dōjō are regular customers. Never ever had any problems with them. I didn't mean to say they're not a reputable business (although I recently had some credit card fraud and I think it was somebody stealing my information from a business that I know is reputable), just that I have trouble buying footwear that fits well. There was a vendor at Pennsic last year selling leather jika tabi. They weren't really historical at all, more like fantasy elf shoes, but I decided to try some on anyway. I tried on multiple sizes of multiple styles and couldn't find a single pair that was comfortable. They were very nice about it, and I have no beef with the vendor, but I'd hate to put myself in a similar situation compounded by thousands of miles of shipping distance.

You could draw your feet on a piece of paper and send it. They are hand made so... But I understand your grief.

So OK, I'm a little bit ahead of schedule on Tabi 2016, but I needed some examples for my class at Pennsic, so I started on a pair, finished one completely as an example, and left one half-constructed so I could show off how you attached the shell and liner before attaching the himo. After Pennsic, I finished the second one up. These are the ninth pair of tabi I've made. There's nothing really extraordinary about them other than their story.

Some late period leather tabi from the book Bushi no Yoosoi. Those are great! I love how the brown tabi on the right don't have split toes, but have a cord running through them instead. I love how the himo on the white tabi are attached to the tabi in a couple of different ways, both of which I will have to try some time. Sewn into the top tarsal seam is probably my favorite, but looped through holes would make it possible to replace them if they break. Thanks for posting that, and welcome to Tousando!
