I'm pretty sure the brown tabi aren't tabi--they are western shoes, imported or copied, and then "fixed" to Japanese standards, which is also rather cool.
(Really? Four years ago? Tempus, as the say, fugit.) Well yes, it does say "shoes" in the caption, which I should have noticed, but now I don't know what to think. The strap does look very European, but the shape of the toe box looks a lot like these kemari footwear:
