It was interesting that 'no' brought up the subject of hand-stitching as I prepare to repair a pair of kiahan. I cut the binding of them yesterday and need to sew new binding on today ... by hand since I have no machine with me.
(1) Anybody know what stitches are used by Japanese?
(2) Anybody have links which describe and show these stitches?

I have one on medieval European stitches. Not quite what you're looking for, but the only thing I have at the moment. And certainly useful in its own right. www.heatherrosejones.com/archaeologicalsewing/index.htmlI'm on my way out the door to work, but I'll drop a note to Kass and see if she has anything. S.
