The Japanese Photo Shoot was quite instructive, and I think people may find these photos of interest. There are more, but I don't want to post them without permission: This is the back of my kataginu, before putting on the hakama. Can you see how it is hand pleated in back? This might not be the best picture (the obi also seems to be riding up a bit). Here, try this: This is Abe-dono in an actual Japanese hitatare--she's the only one who would fit in it! Notice the way it is folded to get those square lines in back? The silk holds this much better than the linen-look of the kataginu does, and it shows better. Here it is with the arms (and sleeves) down by her sides: This is something that I find very hard to do for one's self, although it really does make it look better. Note, both of these were completed with hakama before we were fully dressed, but we wanted to show people part of the in-between stages. Here's the whole thing: I've always felt that pictures could be instructive, so I hope it is here. FYI, it was Hiraizumi-dono who helped show us the proper way to add the folds. -Ii

Well, you COULD send people to your page so they can browse. ;->
Some will get swiped for Samurai Eye.
I love the red kataginu. Such a simple paint effect to do, but it adds SO much to the look.
I notice you're NOT trying to blind folks with the screaming orange dobuku. My retinae are still adjusting. ;D
And the hitatare Takeda-dono's wearing looks somewhat familiar.....
Nice job.

But do we need to get permission from Tony since you're wearing his hitatare? ;-> Sorry, I should have been clearer, I had meant from myself. Well, my mother always refered to me as a hellion. Guess it is a good thing Abe-hime works for the Onmyodo... her and Ii keep me in line. Ofuda, it's like meds, only stronger.

I know what you meant, tomodachi, I was being facetious. Again. Why you people put up with me, I have no idea.

You're cute, cuddly, witty as hell, and endlessly creative.
That's about all I can think. ;D

...Why you people put up with me, I have no idea. Hmmm, an Ultra-cool Heian babe, who isn't above occasional flirting with Buke... In the opinion of this provincial bushi anyhow. (Babe in this instance refering to a wonderful combination of beauty, wit, literary excellence, intelligence, skill in the cultural arts, a wickedly good fasion sense, and a healthy amount of cattyness thrown in for good measure.) Sei Shonagon should watch her back.

Whoa! Guys, thank you, but I was not trolling for compliments. Settle down, willya? I should be more careful what I write!
There are things about Sei that I get - and things about her that I find absolutely appalling. Using someone like that as a role model is fraught with peril. I hope that if I am being catty, it's to comic effect, not with malicious intent.

Ii-dono did all the hand-pleating, and here I was all ready to bop him over the head with a fan if he didn't hurry things along...sorry for grumping at you, sweetie! -Abe no Kotori
