Ohayo-gozaimas, minna san! Pls kindly advise me if koshi-ita is the obligatory part of the period hakama (I mean pre-Edo kataginu kamishimo)? If so, I also need some practical advise regarding making. As far as I understood it must be rather rigid. So, I hope 3-4 layers of the fabric should be enough for this. Pls correct me.

Well, this is something of a can of worms, with a lot of conjecture and opinion. First of all, the outfit here is from a painting of Oda Nobunaga, where we only see the front. The back is conjecture. Early hakama don't have the koshi-ita. Edo period hakama seem to have it (at least the more formal hakama), so when did it come about? There was another thread on this regarding examples in 'Saru no Soshi', and possible examples in the 'Maple Viewers'. So far I've only seen 16th century examples, however, and it doesn't appear universal, so you could really go either way with it. I tend to not do koshi-ita because it usually means I can use the hakama to do earlier period stuff as well as later if I need to. -Ii

There is no example of the koshi-ita in the Maple Viewers. Once I found a decently large image, it became obvious.
