Having watched the naming odyssey of Hosokawa-dono, I now seek the same assistance from the list. I have two names with a couple of options for a third but am not sure if they work (or if they mean anything) Sakurai Kasuo Takamori or Sakurai Kenshiro Takamori. Thoughts, opinions, flames?? Sakurai popped up during a session with Otagiri-dono's random name generator and Takamori was one my good lady wife came across and announced that 'she likes' Please let me know if such a name clashes obscenely with someone elses or else translates into some obscenity Takamori (maybe)

(edited) 1. Sakurai Kasuo Takamori 2. Sakurai Kenshiro Takamori There are several different kanji combinations for Sakurai, however the resource I have in front of me does not give date usage for those combinations. The Baron's page also lists Sakurai using the characters for "cherry" and "well" Since the CoH cares diddly about which kanji you use, and with the Miscellany as documentation it should be quite safe. On the stuff I have in front of me, Kasuo is listed as a surname, not as an given name. Also I do not have info to tell if it is in period. It is a 2 kanji compund, the Kanji used for "o" means: tail, end, counter for fish, lower mountain slope. Here are the 2 used for "kasu" A. dregs, sediment, grounds. B. scrap, waste Kenshiro is much more workable, it could easily be "Intelligent 4th son" Takamori is fine Now as to conflicting with "real life"/historical or SCA: Basic google/yahoo searches do not show any noteworthy people currently by the name Sakurai Takamori, and I could not find any historical figures with same or similar names. In the SCA there is a Sakurai Sa, of Calontir (Jan 1992) and a Fujiyama Takamori of the Midrealm (Jul 1992) So as far as registering goes, you should be clear of any conflict. Conratulations, Sakurai Kenshiro Takamori!

÷ˆäCherry Tree/Well The above Kanji Combination appears to be the only period use, 1400's to be specific.
ŸNˆä Cherry Tree/Well ŸN‹ Cherry Tree/Reside Also appear, but seems to be modern (1920's) usages
