OK, not sure if this is going to work. Am working on a personal Mon, based on the Sakurai clan. From what I can gather the family crest was a single sakura blossom. I'm trying to use three within an enclosure to differentiate it somewhat. Bad image of the design is located here: uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mveejay124/detail?.dir=/9fa7&.dnm=e39c.jpg&.src=phI won't be registering this mon (assuming I can get it to the point I'm happy with it) I'll simply be using it as a distant member of the clan for banner, sashimono and camp chests/garb etc. It's not a very good image. . .I'm away from my office and my expensive dummy proof graphics programs. And I'm not sure if this yahoo album thingy is going to work either. Assuming it does, anyone have any thoughts, complaints, observations about the design they feel like sharing?? You may have to use a 'Share Album' button.

I think its great. Odd numbers (one ring, three charges, 5 petals). Strong geometry. Strong Symmetry.

It is nice and simple. The only suggestion I have is: More simple! We just checked online: one of the decorations for a lieutenant (Taisa--‘å²) in the Navy (and apparently in the police force, too) is a basic sakura: homepage3.nifty.com/shizendo/kaiguntaisakogataerisho3shuomote.JPGThis is also the mon of the Sakurai family. You could probably just take that. If you did, you should be able to get people to pick up the rank ensignia for things like this from costume stores (at least, ones in Japan) and thus might be able to get them for things like armour or other little things. Just a thought--one single sakura blossom. It might be difficult to deconflict within the SCA, but there you go. -Ii

I'd suggest that whatever you choose, make it simple. Something that can easily be identified on a battlefield, of course, but also one you can easily stencil. Lots of people make *beautiful* mon that they never use because they're too hard to make. My rule of thumb is that it should be simple enough to be reproduced by a kid with a can of spray paint.
