Ah.. sigh:
A mat in the clear breeze by the eaves; under the pines, a wine cup in the moonlight-- there's subtle meaning in just such things, much more so when an old friend comes! (modified to give proper credit to Po Chu'i)

That does it. IKEA tomorrow - new bookshelves. Then I can FIND my poor books again instead of dealing with these soulless white file boxes. Perfect! Especially since I am in a room under the eaves. This is a great apartment - or will be, once I get everything where I want it. Silver masts swaying Under the moon's benign gaze, The boats bob gently. I watch from a high window, Thinking of faraway friends. S

Though we are parted By too many lonesome miles And a see of tears, If we gaze up at the sky, Will we not see the same moon?

Not to mention time zones! It's WELL after midnight where you are!
The moon knows little Of partings and lonesome miles, Or the tears of men. Perhaps she knows other things As we watch her from afar.

True story, that first West Kingdom Twelfth Night where I debuted the court togs, I was wearing geta because we were in a hotel conference center and I didn't want to be barefooting through the lobby. The interaction of wooden ha and polished marble floor were not unlike skate blades on a frozen pond. S. Wait, wait..... I'm getting a fuzzy recollection of Northshield's first coronation.... God, my butt hurts just remembering that. ;D I'm amazed my nagabakama didn't rip clear along the rise.

Say Sayonara! Your pale illumination was but half as bright Why would I take the dark beach Over moonlit mountain nights?

'Heian-kyo's Funniest Home Videos': *snip* -Ii 6. The entire court is gathered for the performance of 'Taiheiraku'. As the dancers begin their stately movements, one of them slips, crashing into the next, and all four heavily armored dancers collapse into a clattering tangle of limbs and swords! 7. The solo performance of 'Genjoraku' starts beautifully, but someone misplaces the golden snake figurine! 8. Someone has secretly plugged the lead sho player's instrument with balls of incense...much hilarity ensues! -Kotori

Look at that time stamp. My theory that our Moderator never sleeps continues to hold up.!
(Good one, it's going in the collection too!)
Moonlit moutain nights, Jagged and otherworldly, Not to mention cold. What can compare to the sight Of a thousand moonlit waves?

Moonlit moutain nights, Jagged and otherworldly, Not to mention cold. What can compare to the sight Of a thousand moonlit waves? While returning home, I ran across this rather appropo ending to a choka entitled "On Parting from His Wife as He Set Out from Iwami for the Capital" Aogama no | My gray-white horse | Agaki o hayami | Has carried me at so swift a pace | Kumoi ni zo | That I have left behind | Imo ga atari o | The place where my beloved dwells | Sugite kinikeru | Beneath a cloudland of the distant sky | | | Akiyama ni | O you yellow leaves | Otsuru momijiba | That whirl upon the mountain slopes | Shimashiku wa | If only for a moment | Na chirimagai so | Do not whirl down in such confusion | Imo ga atari min | That I may see where my beloved dwells. |

This is lovely. There's something about a horse with long white eyelashes. I have some very happy memories of a certain gray.
Is this in an anthology somewhere?
