Ah, my BOOKS! My dear friends! It is so good to be able to have you out of your boxes. Greeting each like an old friend, however, means that putting them on shelves takes a bit longer than it probably should. Anyway, I FOUND it. Page 52 of Pierre Souryi's The World Turned Upside Down: Medieval Japanese Society. "In Kyoto, the nobility hostile to the bakufu had been routed and the bakufu's supporters, led by the Kujo and Saionji families (related to the Fujiwara) prevailed. For about a century, until the final years of the Kamakura regime , no real conflict disrupted the harmonious relations between the court and the bakufu." THAT'S where it came from. The bit I knew I'd read but couldn't remember the specifics of. A Post-it in the front of the book tells me I read this book somewhere between February and April of this year. My mind is a rusty file cabinet. Sometimes the oddest things fall out. Saionji.
