The romanization is a little odd, but here is a list of makura kotoba. It is one of the things missing in our tanka, a reference to the 'common language' of the Heian court poets. www.shef.ac.uk/japan2001/makurakotoba.shtmlThe site itself has a bunch of translations of classical poems. www.shef.ac.uk/japan2001/poems.shtmlaki kinu to me ni Fa sayakani mienedomo kaze no woto ni zo odorokarenuru When autumn came My eyes clearly Could not see it, yet In the sound of the wind I felt it.

Ii-dono and I occasionally lob page numbers from an edition of Po Chu Ii's poems in translation. Not quite the same thing. "To be or not to be," or "I do not like green eggs and ham" or "By the shores of Gitchee Goomee" are a lot more likely for most of us..... Argh! Must do laundry and pack for Crown tonight, not write poems! Stop enabling me, O Moderator. BTW, I've been informed that we will have a gentleman from the Barony of the Far West in attendance. ;-> We've been warned that his English is limited. I have warned the kingdom list that my Japanese is limited, (Verbs. Dammit, I need to learn some verbs!). However, I will do my best. I'm not too proud to do the buffalo pantomime from "Dances With Wolves." Saionji
