Okay, it is time for me to bite the bullet and start selling some of the swords I've collected... mainly so I can put the money back into more and better swords.
There are three swords and two bokuto up for sale. I've listed the prices I've found online for the swords or their equivalents. Contact me if you are interested and I'm willing to negotiate.
The swords, as depicted above are:
Last Legend Yashima 2000 1090 steel Iaito. 28 inch w/hi (measured from the end of the habaki, I estimate a 3/4" sori, 10.5 inch Tsuka, black ito on white same. Only flaws are slightly offset kashira(3mm) and chip on saya lacquer near horn (4mm). Tight fittings. Originally sold to me as part of a package deal, estimated at $200.
- I can't argue with this iaito, but it is just a little short for me. Still, I've used it in class and it has a nice spirit and feel. I wouldn't mind a slightly longer version of the same.
DGuertin Keicho wakizashi. This blade cuts, and I have used it for cutting rolled goza omote in class. Blade was 'cleaned up' by the previous owner, so no hamon is visible. I never got it polished further. It has a shortened hi, and is drawn out in an u-no-kubi shape. 21.5" nagasa, and about 7.5" tsuka. Sori is a little over 1/2". Original price was $550.
- I've really liked this wakizashi, but I have two and need to sell one. It could use a polish, or leave it as-is. It is extremely comfortable to wear, as I've used it for Mugai Ryu practice without difficulty.
Last Legend Yashima 4000 folded 28 inch w/ hi, 10.5 inch Tsuka. I'd say about a 1/2"~3/4" sori, but you can see on the matt. Reverse menuki (so the menuki fit into the palms of your hand, like a tachi, rather than being offset as became standard. Some believe this helps your grip), dark blue ito on black same. Before I had received it, it had been a display piece only. Blade is in a 'cutting' polish. Originally priced at $725.
- Again after getting it, it is just a little too short for me. I have cut with it, but not much. The blade itself is fine, and in excellent condition. The saya is the original saya, and has a point inside where the blade 'sticks'. If I were to keep this blade I would take a thin file to the inside of the saya and carefully widen a small section about 3/4 of the way down. I can fix this for a customer if they'd like, or they can do it themselves.
Ebony bokuto. It was contributed by the folks at Shin Taka Design for the 2006 Taikai in Tuscon, Arizon. Estimated price: $300.
- This is a beautiful piece of work, but mainly a display piece for me. For SMR we use a specific white oak bokuto, so this just doesn't work for me. However, I've been very pleased with its shape, and have tried it at home for a few things. It has a good weight and feel to it, but I'd rather it found a home where it saw more use than I'm giving it.
Red oak bokuto. This bokuto is probably 8 years old. It has served me well over the years, and would be perfect for kendo or aikido. I no longer have the original tsuba so it is just the bokuto itself. It's a functional piece that hasn't seen much abuse. I don't expect much more than $20~$25--maybe less.
I don't get a chance to respond quickly, but I will check e-mail (tatsushu AT gmail.com) as well as PMs on the message boards every couple of days. I prefer PayPal, although other forms of payment may be possible. I am willing to negotiate on some of the items. I live on the East Coast of the US, near Washington, DC, which may affect shipping costs to some areas.
