I picked up mine at the Morgantown, WV B&N (1.5 hours South of Pittsburgh) for a paltry $17.98. There were about five left last week in the bargain aisle.

Take the ISBN number into your local Barnes & Noble and order the book at the customer service desk. I did it about six weeks ago when I found that they were out of copies of it on their bargain table. They happily ordered it for me and I had it in less than a week. Note: the price came down; the book rings up for ten bucks now. - Rich

Ah, humblest pardons. I have the Samurai: Arms, Armour and Costume by by Mitsuo Kure.
Ah, even less expensive for a better book! Domo, Rich!

The problem with out of print books is that they're out of print. Depending on the rarity of the book and the knowledge level of the seller, it can affect price significantly.
I hope you win your auction.
For example, several years ago I paid $25 for a paperback that originally retailed for about $1.50 when it was published in the 1950s. I just looked it up on Amazon.com and I could get the same edition for $7. At the time I bought mine, there weren't many copies kicking around for sale, now there are.
BTW, I did see the Kure book at my local Bores and Snowballs this afternoon, so it's obviously around and readily available if folks want it. Effingham-sensei has mentioned that there are some issues with the text and translation and I noticed a few odd spellings in my admittedly cursory inspection. The pictures of non-armor stuff are basically live human beings in outfits featured at the Kyoto Costume Museum, so it was not something I needed to own right this minute.
I prefer going to Moe's and reverently visiting the $600 textile books in their Art and Rare Book room on the 4th floor. It's like going to church. I can't afford 'em, the guy at the desk knows I can't afford 'em, but he doesn't mind because I examine them carefully and with clean fingers and put them back when I'm done. He's pointed out new acquisitions to me that make me want to weep because I can never own them, because he knows I will appreciate seeing them, and he always tells me when there's something new and interesting in the museum catalogue bin that I can afford.
