Noble Cousins! Greetings from Solveig! I have a knife similar to the one in the picture which I bought in Japan. They are typically used for slicing fruit. You are very unlikely to see a knife like that being used during a meal.

They are typically used for slicing fruit. You are very unlikely to see a knife like that being used during a meal. Well, of course, at a civilized meal, that goes without saying. However, some of us are sometimes required to travel among the namban, who insist upon flinging large joints of half-burned animals onto their tables and calling it a meal.

Ha ha ha! Too true. This knife is perfect as far as price and portability go. Under $15 for a serviceable AND pretty knife - you can't beat that! Thanks for posting this! I'm particularly drooling over the cutlery basket.
