Title: 図説・戦国甲冑集―決定版 Title: The Definitive Sengoku Collection - Illustrated Author: Date: Publisher: Gakken ISBN4-05-602892-3 www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4056028923/250-9013495-2996262This is book I had seen selling on Ebay for more than 50US$. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was a mere 2250yen. (2100 when I bought it just 9 months ago!). This book is my favorite armour book just for the number of high quality full color pictures of dozens and dozens of modern armours (tosei gusoku). Also included are two illustrated head-to-toe arming guides. One where the author (?) dons an armour suitable for a samurai of status and another where he dresses as an ashigaru. There are closeup of individual armour pieces, the insides of pieces, and details of the ties and frogs. There is a discussion of various scale. A group of simple okegawa-dou with weights can be found in the back. And while all the body of the text is in Japanese, most topics and pictures are also labled in romanji making it possible for those who are familiar with Japanese armour terminology to gain quite a bit from the book. Rumour has it that Mykaru is working on an English translation. But even without it, I highly recommend this book to any with a deep interest in Japanese armour. Just imagine if Osprey produced books like this!
