I am bumping this thread because my copy arrived today.
What an incredible book! The photography is all full-color, and quite clear, with full-length images of each character shown. There are explanations of each type of character (young man, old man, noble man, ranking nobleman, warrior man, married man, widower, emperor, guard, etc) as well as an explanation of what elements make up each costume - does the character wear their hair up or down? Beard density and color? Roundels on their garments? Belt? Feathers on their headdress?
Also included are patterns for the garments, from pants to coats to cloud collar, images of how the flags are tied onto the torso, how makeup layers are applied, how embroidery patterns are transferred (and what they mean), and what shoes are worn by what character.
Add on the glossary, the translations, and the section which breaks down each character type with a photograph referencing predominant clothing details, this looks to be a staggering book. I'm delighted to have it in my collection!
