Shogun: "Shut up."
Peasant: " I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some moistened bint had conveniently drowned the real Emperor, people would put me away!"

Raito-dono,
I wish to express a big "Awesome!" to your idea and event. If I can, I will endevor to attend.
I do have a few things to point out though.
Are you not afraid this will limit or reduce turn out for the event? Is this for all the fighting at the event or just a particular battle?
Not all tachi were exclusively single edged, also in tanto there are a number of surviving examples that are not single edge... (moroha) Secondly, there are a number of passages from the classical era talking of wonderous deeds of samurai weilding 2 weapons, inlcuding spear and naginata! Check out the Tale of Heike... I'd also like to point out that these people were usualy resigned to their mortality and basically are determined to take as many people with them as possible. (oft-times they are described as fighting as if taken by hachiman himself or a demon.) It must have been quite a shock to the ones that survived the day, though from what I recall, I can think of only one person who did.
Please note I am not posting to quibble, just wanted to point out a few things. It sounds like it will be a blast, and I hope I can get out there for it.

Are you not afraid this will limit or reduce turn out for the event? Is this for all the fighting at the event or just a particular battle? The style restrictions are just for this particular battle, though there's 16 other hours of fighting going on. SO I doubt that it will affect event attendance. As for limiting this particular battle's attendance, that's rather the point. Really, I'm attempting to get the flavor right, and those restrictions lessen the chance that someone will try to weasel past me. Sure, if someone makes it, and documents it to me, I'll allow it. As for the 2 weapon fighting, I believe I've read the passages, and I'm not at all certain that they fought with both at the same time (rather like some of the Norse stuff, it may turn out that they brought 2 weapons, but didn't use both at the same time, and I allow for that). We probably won't even hit a dozen for this, but it's likely to be all the fighting I get the whole weekend. As it is, if I want to have anyone but me and one other I can think of, I'm going to have to be pretty liberal on armour, especially helmets. For myself, I'm definitely fgoing to need some sode and haidate. I'm not going out under those rules with bare legs and shoulders. *moderator edits to correct quotation blocks

I was talking with one of Sir Leif's squires friday at practice about WW and he mentioned this battle to me. He and a few of the local Gray Fox fighters are going to the event and Thrain (the squire i was talking to) spoke very highly of the event. I do have a few questions though:
Does anybody know what the estimated turnout would be for a fight like this? Just curious if it's going to be five or six guys or fifteen to twenty.
and secondly;
(this is more of a rhetorical question) I am assuming that those fighters in attendance should display as much heraldry as human possible. If i build a sashimono for the battle, are there any requirements as far as construction materials?

WW is Northshield's premier event. It draw more people than any of our interkingdom events, or even Crown and Coronation.
So far, I can only promise that I'll be there, though there has been some interest from other quarters, both for this battle, and the rest of the fighting.
Even if we only have a couple people for this, there's 2 full days of fighting besides.
Last year we had about 100 fighters total. Some years, there's been as many as 200.
On the whole, I'd say that it's more likey to be 6 than 20. But then, there's an awful lot of fighting going on. As you can see abouve, we have 16 hours of fighting scheduled, and that's 16 solid hours. The way I run it, we line'em up and crash'em together. When we're done, I announce that the next engagement starts in 3 minutes. 3 minutes later, it does. Repeat until the field closes. If you need a nreak, take one, we'll still be here when you get back.

On the whole, I'd say that it's more likey to be 6 than 20. There is a very good chance that five of us from Colorado will be there just for this battle. Ryokai Hiroyuki Ishikawa (Wulfric) Otagiri

Domo for the link Date. I'll add it to the list of things to do ;D As always the list gets bigger and bigger Raito, Is this a prototype run for a possible feature at Pennsic? i'll probably bite the bullet and head up that way. I made it to Blackstone Raids last season so this could be my long haul event for this season.

Raito, Is this a prototype run for a possible feature at Pennsic? If it does get done at Pennsic, it'll be done by someone else. Now that Northshield is it's own Kingdom, I'm far less likely to go, especially as my lady doesn't like it, and won't go again (she far prefers Lilies and Gulf Wars).
