Moved to its own thread.
Part of the West Kingdom encompasses bits of northern Nevada. The local group up near Reno hosted the Coronation of our new King and Queen Hauoc and Ginevra at a working cattle ranch in Vinton, California, near the Nevada border, elevation around 5000, in a valley surrounded by high desert hills.
Imagine trying to pitch tents on an eight inch deep layer of dust and pulverized cow poo. I could've driven them in with a wet noodle instead of a sledge. With an almost full moon, it was actually gorgeous at night (but cold in the wee hours when I had to get up and er, wee). Unfortunately, during the day it got extremely windy, distributing said sand/poo/dust composite pretty much everywhere. It was in my eyes, my hair, my clothes, my drinking bowl....
My wedge tent just got back from a very wet week at Pennsic and I think between the kiln-like Nevada conditions and the wind, it torqued my ridge-pole (two six foot 2x4's connected with a galvanized steel sleeve) so badly that I ended up taking down my tent because the uprights simply could NOT stay vertical. I tore down completely on Saturday at sundown and overnighted with a friend in Reno. I will be buying lumber tomorrow.....
To their very great credit, both outgoing and incoming Royalty were gracious and forebearing. Her Majesty Ginevra held her Champion's tourney at 7 PM so that the fighters would not have to do it at elevation during the hottest part of the day. The winds obligingly died down around 6 or so as the sun dropped.
Needless to say, I am profoundly relieved to be home and CLEAN.
