Greetings to all who enjoy this forum. I would like to mention to those that do not know, that over at the Yama Kaminari site, we have a bi-monthly forum featuring a period poetry contest. We ask that the participants stick to period formats, such as tanka and haiku, but we do not restrict the formats to just Japanese. If you know Chinese formats, or even (gasp) european formats, they are all welcome. Go to www.yamakaminari.com and click on the Poetry Slam link in the left hand window. For those familiar with the Slam, the Web Ministers of Yama Kaminari ask you to please forgive us for being slightly slow in honoring the winners of this month's Poetry Slam. As many of you know, one of our own has suffered a death in the family and the clan is paying their respects. Business as usual must, of needs, take a back seat. However, now I would like to pay homage to this month's Poetry Slam winner, Odriana. I thought the poetry was breathtaking, and perfectly fit in with the theme. Excelent job. The new topic for the Slam is Cortier's fans. Lastly, I would also like to ask the previous winners of the Yama Kaminari Poetry Slam to contact us via e-mail and send us their mailing addresses. We are offering five spools of Silk Thread to the winners of each contest. Good luck, and keep up the excelent poetry. It is my understanding that this issue of the T.I. features a Japanese Poetry Extravaganza! I am also humbled and honored to note that some of my own poetry has been included. Congradulations to its most esteemed Author. Date Saburou Yukiie Yama Kaminari Ryu

I am also humbled and honored to note that some of my own poetry has been included. O Thou of the Resplendently Natty Hunting Ensemble, it is this person's dim recollection that the whole thing is pretty much your fault. You wrote the first poem of the day, you flirt! Can we help it if it was inspiring? Congradulations to its most esteemed Author. (Better esteemed than steamed, I always say.) For those listmembers who do not subscribe to Tournaments Illuminated, a web version of my humble and amateurish scribblings can be found at www.geocities.com/wodeford/heian_poetry_jam.htmMakiwara

Up here, we tend to, instead of sequentially writing waka, to start with 3 lines, then have the next finish with 2 lines and continue the next with 3. So each person in sequence finishes the previous, and starts the next. At my Investiture, I kept a book with me, and invited the well-known and not-so-well-known to link some verse. I may have to dig it up again.

So each person in sequence finishes the previous, and starts the next. It quite literally happened the way I described in the article. It's certainly not the first time or the last that Date-dono and I have gotten up to mischief, er, I mean, poetry. M.

I did, and got a message back that I was posting to a closed list. So presumably all you over there got to see my verse, assuming your moderator let it through.
