The 'sequel' to Kimono and the Color of Japan, Summer Kimonos and the Colors of Japan is a volume covering traditional motifs, with sidebars on weaving and fabric types and illustrations of summer scenes (the later has captions that are not translated). I would consider this volume a little weaker than 'Kimono', though mostly because the information isn't completely relevant to the reenactor- the motif information tends to be short with a few tidbits of information but the dyestuffs are all post-Meiji. Like the first volume, there are some awkward translations and bad graphic design choices (seriously, who puts text in yellow or white on gray?) but these are easily overcome with a good reading light. I'd recommend this volume for the completist or if you just enjoy looking at pictures of pretty kimono. Data for SCAdians is sparse but hey, I said it was pretty right? Link to AmazonAccording to Amazon, the next volume in the series covers children's kimono.
