back onto the topic this wus started at, i have a question on rennesaince festivals. the one around where i live is coming up soon and i would like to dress up but, i dont have anything but japanese garb-ish stuff. should i go to it in that even tho its a european festival? or should i just go in my normal boring clothes i wear everywhere? Do you think you'll feel comfortable dressed up or not? As in at ease, not as in comfy clothes. How do you feel about role playing? How do you feel about being different in a crowd? Maybe being stared at? People go to faire to watch the show. If you show up in costume you become part of the show yourself. As you probably know, the Portuguese made contact with Japan in the 1540's. If someone asks you about what you're doing there in Japanese, perhaps you can say, "I'm sorry, I am part of Senhor (Insert Portuguese name here)'s party and we seem to have gotten separated in the crowd." (This also gives you a way to make a getaway if you think the person wants to be confrontational. It sometimes happens.) Be polite. Bow a lot. Act curious - but polite! You are visiting a very strange place and seeing things a visitor from Japan has never seen before, even after months at sea with the Portuguese. You can have a LOT of fun with the stranger in a strange place act. Oh, another thing, it's probably best if you leave weaponry at home. Different faires have different policies about it. Peace bonding refers to strapping or tying blades into their sheaths so you can't draw them without a major production, but some places may not even want you bringing weapons in. As I recall, you're a minor. You don't want your property confiscated. Makiwara

i dont mind being different, i actually prefer it (lol, u should see me at skool, adding letters made of ducttape to the backs of ppl's letterman jackets, wear armor under sweatshirts and having mock battles etc.)
i'll take that into consideration if i decide to dress up

Bah!!! They'ra all out of place stinkung Otaku. Back when I was stateside and active it depended on how lazy I felt. Absolute slacker=genericelt (note this included handwoven hand sewn T tunics ), middling concerned over appearance=bushi, Dressed to kill =landesknekt. Mountain Confed knows me as that Japanese Landesknekt (I do miss those guys). I never had my Japanese fighting kit where I wanted it (I tend to be a perfectionist, who`d of guessed), so armour was generic Ansteorran or landesknekt. I was unwilling to "settle". My first hachi and menpo is (thankfully) collecting dust in my dad's attic.
