If we did a field trip to Japan, planned for about 1~2 years out, how many people think they might be able to make it?
The idea would be to set up a trip to Japan, starting in Tokyo, and hitting sites specifically with an ear towards pre-17th century Japan, focusing on the Asuka to Sengoku periods.
I'm thinking that the trip would be a minimum of 2 weeks, maybe longer (we could have "drop-ins" or "drop-outs" as needed) if people could get the time off. My wife and I could provide basic translation for those who do not speak the language, and we'd be willing to help book everything.
Our main question is: Who might want to do such a thing, and what kind of time constraints do you expect you'd have? Once we find out how many are interested, we can start looking at costs.

Ii dono!
Greetings from Solveig! It sounds both expensive and a bit cumbersome (trying to organize SCA people is generally more difficult than herding cats). Regardless, I am tentatively interested.

Great!
Our idea will be to come up with a schedule--people can stick to it or deviate depending on what they want to do and see. If there are enough people, we could have split activities (e.g. if some people want to go looking at swords all day while others ogle the tea ceremony items).
I'd also like to get a meet and greet with the local SCA and Avalon folks--maybe even schedule it near a local event, like Coronet Tournament, if they have it in Tokyo.

A tentative sorta kinda maybe yes. Every time I try to sock away money for The Japan Someday Fund it ends up paying for dental work or car repairs or something else.....

I would be interested, assuming costs could be kept under $2,000 or so. Is that unrealistic?
