I am in the process of making some new garb and would like to do tattsuke-bakama. I was wondering where exactly the leg ties are attached and when tied where the knot is located, is it at the front of the leg or at the back?
also on the left hand pair of tattsuke-bakama on Effinghamsensei's the kyahan part doesn't seem to meet up at the top outer corners how should that be done?

www.shop-japan.co.jp/english-boku/martial-arts5-s.htmA little hard to see because these are black, but the knots end up at the front: which would make sense if the calf section is open at the back. Re the green example on Sengoku-daimyo, I think the garment was photographed while folded flat.

Makiwara-hime thankyou for your quick responce on where the knot is placed
Are they open at the back? On both pairs on Effinghamsensei's site it appears the opening corresponds to the front pleat because otherwise why would you have the pleat go all the way down and not stop at the kyahan part? Is this maybe a difference between modern and period?
I know that pair is folded flat but it has a corner sticking out past the edge of the kyahan so when wearing them wouldn't they have a weird point sticking out?

Are they open at the back? I honestly can't tell from these photographs. The green set looks to me like it has a fold crease down the front that corresponds to the front pleat. I happen to own a couple of vintage pieces made out of heavy jinken (a very high-end rayon) brocade. It's got a lot of bulk and stiffness to it, resulting in folds that cannot fold as flat as a lighter fabric would. I think the green pair is displayed folded and those corners are the result. I can't imagine why they still wouldn't ultimately pleat into the bottom section and blouse over it correctly when worn.
